  1. Try not to get too carried away. I would consult a contractor to get an idea of what each of these suggestions might cost. They can be add/altos to the final renovation. Basic upgrades are what is needed most-bathroom, kitchen, flooring, windows, walls. This alone may eat up your budget. An entrance from the front hall is an excellent idea. At the minimal make it more appealing to rent. Then find out what the added “luxuries” will cost.

    1. You are right — every additional feature would cost more money. A new entrance in particular would be a major bit of construction. And the room is not a money-maker, so any investment at all would have to be thought of as an amenity that indirectly increases property values. We should evaluate all of these suggestions in that light.

  2. Truthfully, I’m not sure why the Housing Committee didn’t gather this feedback in the last year that this discussion was open with the Board. The questions at the end were actually some of the most important and should have been expanded on. Is the community room a multi-purpose room for cooperators to rent (daily or hourly) to host functions or is it a room for cooperators to come and hang out (library, movies, computers, etc.). These are two very different uses. Once you know what the majority of the people want to use the room for, then you can decide what it should have in it.

  3. My feeling is that renovating the room without WiFi would be a waste, too 19th C. I’m in favor of a comfortable meeting place with good seating (couches and chairs). The daily rental is expensive, and should certainly be broken down to hourly rentals.

  4. ** If you make the room a place for families to gather such as mentioned – movie room , computer station , place to gather and relax..etc that may cause issues such as : 1) how do you control the flow of tenants or strangers coming in and out.. do we plan to pay for a guard? 2) kids and teenagers may use this facility to run around and property could get damaged so are we paying someone to make sure everything is under control …$$. 3)who is going to clean up afterwards? 4) who will pay the heat & electric bill if room is open day/night ? I truly love the idea but we are in a big complex and there would have to be many rules and a guard which will cost . I think it might be wise to just rent for parties, women/men club ,and similar functions. I would definitely have the bathroom & kitchen renovated with better seating . Adding a separate entrance way will be very costly because entrance ways have to be handicap accessible…. city codes$$.

  5. I put “ok” in all the listed options except a new entrance because I don’t believe I would want to go anywhere near the room – nice or not – as long as entrance is through garbage… I also nixed idea of annexing women’s club with community room for same reason.. all pales when compared to ability to enter via a ‘normal’ entrance and THEN the area can be improved by majority consensus on what’s needed.
